Subject: [UK-NE] ELLIOTT and STOREY surnames

I have an Alexander ELLIOTT born 1815 in my line. I found on the IGI a
marriage on 27 September 1835 at Gosforth to Mary Sohpia STOREY (according
to the IGI born around 19 October 1817). According to the 1851 census
Elliott lived in Heworth and in a Post Office directory for 1853 Alexander
operated a glassworks at Carrs Hill under the name Alexander Elliott & Co.
It was still their in Whellan's 1854 and he was still a glass manufacturer
in 1857.

Elliott and Mary had the following children:

Ellen (born 1836 in Newcastle) she married William Losh McKENZIE 25
December 1857 at Heworth St Albans and had 9 children, including Maude Mary,
from whom I am descended.
Francis (born 1839
Sophia (born 1842)
James (born 1846)
Alexander (born 1848), he married Eliza Emma ?? and had 5 children,
William Alexander, Francis Annie, James Henry, Mary Ellen and Ralph

Has anyone got a connection to either Mary Sophia STOREY or Alexander
ELLIOTT and their descendants.

On the 1851 Mary's age is given as 30. Can anyone shed any light on the
discrepancies in her age other than transcription error or plain giving the
wrong age.

The glass industry in Gateshead suffered from cheap imports and in my
Whellan's for 1894 there are no glassworks in the area. Can anyone shed any
light on the glass industry and particularly Alexander Elliott & Co. of
Carrs Hill, or suggest any publications which could.
