I received this nice response from James Shannon. Thanks to those who
provided information about his possible ancestors. I suggested that he joiin
the list.

Mr. Johnson,
Thank you for posing the query. The information I have received has
been very helpful and informative. The info from FTDNA about RAO and
Haplogroups confuses me about the origins of the Pace family (my matches).
How do I figure out where my ancesetry originates, England, Ireland, etc. Or
is this just not possible from these results unless I can trace my specific
family migration. Thank you again for accepting me into the Pace project now
the trail is hot and my family past can finaly be rediscovered. How can we
know where we are going if we don't know where we come from?
James Shannon
His 12 marker test was a perfect match for the modal for group 3b. I will
not reveal the kit number here as for safety we keep kit numbers and names
separate, and in this case, the kit number is not relevant. He wanted his
name reveled as that is part of his story--the change in the name from Pace
to Shannon.
I have explained how DNA works, and that this is a strong indication that he
is descended from either John + Sarah ("John the Tory") or from a relative
of John, and that this indicates probable English ancestry.I have also
suggested that he upgrade to more markers.
