ALLEN _ Malcolm Arthur, born August 30, 1929 in Essex, England, passed away July 6,
2004. He will be sadly missed by his family: loving wife Dorothy; daughters, Jackie,
Patricia (Steve), Susan (Neil), Christine (Randey); grandchildren, Vanessa, Stephanie,
Michael, Erin, David, Sean, Robyn and Calum; and sisters, Jean and Erica. No service by
request. Donations to cancer research in lieu of flowers.

BEHESHTI _ Dorothy died peacefully on June 27, 2004, aged 75, with life partner Shirley
softly singing "I'll Love You Forever". Predeceased by Evelyn and lovingly remembered by
Shirley; Cameron, Marlene, Brittany and Alexis; Norma and John; Coryn and Ralph;
Dorothy, Neil and Kyle; Ali; and many friends. Throughout careers as blacklisted
activist, teacher, supermom, director of volunteers, and artist, Dorothy was creative,
courageous, intelligent, witty and strong. Her fulfilling final year included opera,
friends, swimming, drawing and most of all Shirley. Celebration of Life: Saturday, July
31, 3:00 p.m. at Quaker Meeting House, 1090 W. 70th, Vancouver. If desired, donations to

BLAIS _ Roger Lucien Joseph of Aldergrove, BC passed away on Monday June 28th, 2004 at
the age of 61. Predeceased by his mother Marie and brother Gilles. Survived by his
loving wife Pat Knapp, brother Gerald (Linda) of Surrey, sisters Paulette (Joe) Filion
of North Bay, Ontario, Dianne (Dan) MacNeill of Port Coquitlam and Jackie (Warren) Howie
of Aldergrove. Roger will also be missed by his three stepchildren Kelly, Kimberly and
Michael (Sarah), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and one special
four-legged canine named "Taz". Roger was a strong willed person who was never afraid of
a difficult journey as witnessed by all since his double lung transplant in January
1994. Roger's sheer determination helped him overcome many obstacles that would have
stopped other men much larger than himself. Prior to his retirement from Curtis Lumber,
Roger worked for many years in the construction supply industry. He always led by
example of being loyal, hard working, and devoted. Whenever possible, Roger enjoyed time
away with Pat and Taz in his motorhome and in prior years, his love of fishing and
boating were well known. Thank you to the many doctors and nurses who helped Roger over
the last few years as his health became more fragile and difficult to manage. A special
thanks to the family, whose unselfish gift allowed Roger to extend his life for the last
ten years. No service by request. A celebration of Roger's life will take place
Saturday, July 17, 2004 starting at 2pm at the home of his brother Gerald Blais, 9275
149 Street, Surrey, BC 604-581-6265. All family, friends and previous co-workers are

BLOOM _ Robert Allen (Al) of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away quietly, surrounded by his
family at MSA Hospital on July 1, 2004, aged 80 years. He was recently (June 9, 2004)
predeceased by his wife Joy, (nee Legge). He will be sadly missed by his son Les Bloom
(Christine); granddaughters, Stephanie and Andrea; stepchildren Wayne Amiel (Collette),
Coleen Willsher (Gordon), Darlene Girling (Brad MacKenzie); grandchildren, Natanya,
Chad, Paul, Tricia, Joanne (Graeme); great-grandchild Kaley; remaining brother Andrew
Bloom (Sarah); many nieces, nephews and friends. A service and celebration of life will
be held July 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2597 E. Bourquin
Crescent in Abbotsford, B.C., Rev. Guy Sinclair will officiate.
BRANCA _ Passed away in Sechelt on June 23, 2004, John Joseph Branca age 98 years.
Survived by 3 sons and their wives: Philip and Barbara of Lillooet; Richard and Veronica
of Gibsons; Edward of Orlando. Florida; nieces Dolorus, Patricia, and Sandra;
grandchildren: Johnnie, Angie and Royal; 8 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
Service Wednesday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Devlin Funeral Home, Gibsons.
Pastor Al Grochowski officiating. Interment Seaview Cemetery. A reception will follow in
St. Mary's Catholic Church Hall.

BROWN _ George Allan, born July 30, 1931, passed away peacefully July 6th, 2004 at
Burnaby B.C. Survived by his loving wife, Winnifred; his son, Wayne (Linda); daughter,
Linda (Bill) and grandson, Dustin. George was the owner of G.A. Brown Construction for
over 40 years. A private Memorial Service for family at Forest Lawn. An Irish Wake will

BUSTILLO _ Emilio V. Bustillo Jr. Passed away July 4, 2004 at Richmond General Hospital,
Richmond, aged 64 years. Predeceased by parents Emilio and Lolita Bustillo, brother
Edgar Bustillo. Survived by his loving family, sisters and their husbands, Felicidad
(Leonardo) Hernandez, Flordeliza (Ricardo) Sta, Maria, Millette (Cris) Pimentel;
brothers and their wives, Dr. Abelardo (Lita), Ruben (Mila), Rogel, Johnny (Solly),
Ramon (Faye) and sister-in-law Theresa Bustillo, many nieces and nephews, relatives and
friends in Canada, USA, and the Philippines. Celebration of Life and Mass will be held
at 11:30am on July 13, 2004 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 4451 Williams Rd.,
Richmond. Interment at Ocean View Burial Park.

CLARK _ Sylvia Florence, born November 29, 1911, passed away peacefully at the Willow
Manor Care Centre, Maple Ridge on June 18, 2004. Sylvia had resided in Burquitlam for 68
years from 1934 until her move to Maple Ridge in November 2002. She was predeceased by
her husband, Ted on March 10, 2004 and her sister, Dolly Toombs, on February 7, 2004.
She is survived by her daughter Diane (John) Mausser, granddaughter Cindy Mausser and
sister-in-law Marjorie West, as well as several nieces and nephews. Sylvia led a very
quiet and unassuming life and was completely devoted to her husband and family. Her
generosity and caring will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Francois
Botha of Crossroads Medical Clinic and the nurses and staff members of the Willow Manor
Care Centre, not only for their compassion during the last few weeks, but also for the
wonderful care and consideration extended to Sylvia during the past two years.

CROWE _ Reginald John. Passed away peacefully on July 2, 2004. Born March 29, 1924 in
Eastbourne, Sussex, England. Predeceased by loving wife Jean Evelyn (nee Clerkson).
Survived by sons David (Shu-Hsien) and Brian (Monica); daughter Patricia (Robert) Tait;
and grandchildren Jennifer, Janice, Russell, Gregory, Stephanie, and Jacqueline. He will
be sadly missed by all his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m.
on Wednesday, July 14 at the Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver. The family
wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Alma Cariaga for the excellent care she provided to

de VETTE _ Lillian Grace. With sadness we announce the passing of our Mother,
Grandmother and Oma who was born October 18, 1914 and passed away peacefully on June 24,
2004. She was predeceased by Harry Warman, Balt deVette, sons-in-law John Pinter and
Frank Forcier. She is survived by daughters Betty Crosby (Bob), Barbara Forcier, Pat
Davis; stepdaughter Jannie Scriabin; sons Robert Warman (Dora), Murray Warman (Joanne);
12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. A tea is being planned in Mum's memory for

DECKER _ Edith M. Sadly announcing the passing of Edith Mae Decker on July 6th, 2004 in
Abbotsford, at the age of 88. Edith is survived by daughters, Darlene (Stan) Puchniak of
Winnipeg, Marilyn (Maurice) Gomme of St. Catherines, Ontario, Judy (Jim) McInnes of
Abbotsford, and sons, Fred (Erika) of Youbou, B.C., Alan (Ruth) of Surrey, Brian
(Franke) of White Rock, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and her
three sisters, Muriel, Gladys and Shirley. A Memorial Service will be on Sunday, July
11th at 11:00 a.m. in Victory Memorial Park Chapel, 14831 - 28th Avenue, Surrey/White
Rock.

EAKIN _ Margaret passed away peacefully July 5, 2004. Margaret was born in Calgary in
1912 where she resided for many years, graduating in nursing from the Calgary General
Hospital. In 1949 her family moved to Powell River as owners and operators of Foodland
Grocery, then lived in Vancouver where she was predeceased by her husband John in 1962.
The past 6 1/2 years she was a resident of Parksville. So dearly loved and will be sadly
missed by daughter Gale Currie (Joe), son Michael and stepson Jack. Also survived by her
devoted grandchildren, Patrick, Drew, Dean (Rita), Brenda (Randy), Amanda, John (Barb),
Sidney. She will be remembered by 8 great-grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews and many
caring friends. A tremendous thanks to all the staff at Trillium Lodge for the love and
special care given to Margaret. A "gathering of Remembrance" will be held from 2 - 5
p.m. Sunday, July 18th at 2395 Green Isle Place, Nanoose (across from Fairwinds Centre).

FLANDERS _ Annie (Ann) Louise (nee Turtle). Born August 27, 1920 in Brutus, Alberta.
Passed away July 6, 2004 at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C., after a long battle
with cancer. Predeceased by her husband Ralph in 1991. Survived by her son Tony Flanders
(Elizabeth), (Vancouver, B.C.); and daughter Linda Lawton (Bill), and granddaughters
Julia and Miranda (Surrey, B.C.). At Ann's request, there will be no memorial service.
Tony and Linda will host a reception for any family and friends who wish to attend, at
the Delta Edmonton Centre Suites Hotel, 10222 - 102nd Street, Edmonton, Alberta, from
2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation

FLEMING _ Frances Louise - Sechelt, BC. Born August 1913; passed away on July 8, 2004
surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by husband, Ray. Frances was a pioneer BC
teacher, inspiring and highly regarded educator and author; respected community leader,
mentor and friend to many, young and old. She was the first woman administrator in a
Vancouver secondary school; first woman Superintendent of Schools in B.C.; awarded the
Order of BC in 1997. Survived by son John (Jack) Fleming (June), daughters Edith Ehlers
(Doug) and Maureen Clayton (John), 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.
Commemorative service, Saturday, July 24 at St. John's United Church, Davis Bay, 2 p.m.

FURLAN _ Tarcisio (Boci/Tony). Born on October 24, 1927 in Pieve di Soligo, Italy. Died
on July 7, 2004 in Vancouver, after a stubborn battle with cancer. In Vancouver, he is
survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bruno and Zorka and their family Frank, Patty,
Joey and Anthony and Diana, Gary and Emily. In Italy, he is survived by his sisters,
Antonietta and Maria and her family Giorgio, Patrizia, Gianlucca and Massimiliano and
Stefania, Mauro and Filippo. Tarcisio came to Vancouver in 1953. He was a very sociable
man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors and would only reveal the
location of his funghi patches to his best friends. His work in terrazzo can be seen in
various buildings in BC and Hawaii. Before retiring, he spent 19 years at CP Air. Family
and friends will miss him. A Memorial Mass will be held at 7:30PM on Wednesday, July
14th at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

GALLUP _ Robert February 4, 1915 - July 5, 2004 in Vancouver, BC. Born in Eastern
Townships of Quebec. He left home at age 16 and enlisted in the Royal Dragoons at St.
Jean, Quebec. He served with Royal Canadian Engineers from 1935 - 1965 in Canada and
overseas. Later he worked for Transport Canada for 15 years. He retired in 1980. Ivan
was active in the Royal Canadian Legion (Kerrisdale 120 Branch), Sons of Scotland (Lord
Tweedsmuir 209 Camp), and FSNA of BC and the Icelandic Canadian Club of BC. He is
survived by his second wife, Geraldine Thorlakson-Gallup, his daughter Jennifer Forbes
and sister Nora. He was predeceased by his first wife Phyllis Gallup, brother Don and
sister Helen. At Ivan's request there will be no memorial service. Sincere thanks to the
staff of HOFN, Icelandic Care Home in Burnaby.

GILBERT _ Bertha Eva (Smith) passed away peacefully on July 7, 2004 at the age of 91.
Born on June 18, 1913 in Saskatchewan, she was predeceased by her husband Archibald
Gilbert and many other family members. Bertha is survived by family members Kathleen and
Valerie, her stepchildren and their families, and many friends. A visitation will be
held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, July 12 at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service
will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Ave., Burnaby on Tuesday, July
13 at 1:00 p.m.

Wife of the late L. Bruce Gourlie. Mother of Brian Gourlie and his wife Virginia of
Concord, MA. Sister of Erna Martin, Lillian Eurich and Violet Rumpell all of Vancouver,
British Columbia. Loving grandmother of Phoebe Louise Titus of Philadelphia, PA, Leah
Jane Gourlie and Audrey Janet Gourlie both of Concord, MA. Also survived by many nieces

GRAY _ William Keith (Bill). Born June 9, 1930, in Clanwilliam, Man. Passed away July 3,
2004 in Burnaby, B.C., after a brief illness that he faced with dignity and humour.
Survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Anne, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill grew up in Minnedosa and Basswood, Man., and worked for many years with Moore's
Printing in Winnipeg and Vancouver. Special thanks to the Fraser Health Palliative Home
Care Team and to the Palliative Ward at Burnaby Hospital for their wonderful care. No
service by request. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Union Gospel Mission

GRIST _ On June 22, 2004, Anna Kristine Grist quietly passed away while in her sleep.
She was in her 94th year. She will be well remembered by her family and friends.

HIGGINS _ Peter Hunter, born March 6, 1932 in Glasgow, Scotland, passed away on Friday,
July 9, 2004 at the age of 72, after a valiant battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Dearly loved and missed by his wife Betty; daughters, Elaine (Jamie Pitblado) and Alison
(Stan Callegari); grandchildren James, Caitlin, Owen Pitblado and Tyler, Adam, Eric
Callegari; family in Scotland, England, New York; and close friends. Peter enjoyed
music, gardening, reading and dogs. Poppa loved soccer, tennis and golf and took great
pleasure in teaching his adored grandchildren the finer points of each. His caring
character was reflected in the fact that, despite his discomfort, he always had a kind
word and thank-you for those caring for him. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sehn and her
team, and the staff at VGH Palliative Care for their care and compassion. A memorial
service in celebration of Peter's life will be held at Knox United Church on Tuesday,
July 13 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
B.C. Cancer Agency or the VGH Palliative Care unit would be appreciated. Our husband,

IP _ Suze Shui-chun (nee Yuen) passed away June 15, 2004 in Hong Kong at the age of 84.
A funeral service was held at the Hong Kong Funeral Home June 29. She will be greatly
missed by Yeuk-Iam, her loving husband of 66 years; sons Kelly (Maggie), Ted (Amy), Skip
(Maureen), grandchildren Pam (Sam), Ann (Edmund), Michelle, Kingston, Gerald, Victor and
great-grandchildren Justin and Alyssa and many relatives and friends around the world.
Interment of ashes to follow later in Vancouver.

JENSEN-ARNEBERG _ Ruth Kristine. Born August 3, 1933, Slagelse, Denmark. We are very sad
to announce that our beloved mother Ruth passed away on July 6, 2004 (Age 70).
Predeceased by her husband Arne Arneberg in 2003. She is survived by her children,
Karin, Barney (Shirley), Johnny, Gail (Cyril); her grandchildren Raina, Kirsten, David,
Krista, Michael and Kara; her great-grandchildren Aidan, Mya, Grayson, Cyrus and Kyle;
her sisters and brothers in Denmark and her constant companion Phoebe, the luckiest dog
in the world! There are not enough words to express how much we will miss you and how
much we love you. You were our foundation.

JETTER _ Anna Kirk, nee Rosborough, of West Vancouver, born August 21, 1916 at
Newcastle, New Brunswick, died peacefully at home on July 6, 2004, having almost
attained her 88th birthday. Predeceased by her husbands Robert Francis Koerner and
Joseph Jetter, by her son Dr. Kirk Finlayson Koerner, and by her sister Edith Leduc.
Survived by her nephew Peter Eppel and family in Austria. Anna's life was filled with
family, friends and travel. She especially enjoyed the spectacular views of West
Vancouver and the ocean from her residence. The quality of Anna's later years was
greatly enriched by the care provided by Sultana Abassy, particularly following the
sudden death of Anna's beloved Joseph, who had previously devoted himself to Anna's
needs. Mila and Lourdes are also remembered for their assistance with Anna's care.
Together with husbands Robert and Joseph, Anna was a great supporter of the arts in
Vancouver and a quiet contributor to many charitable endeavours. Those wishing to
remember her are encouraged to make a donation to the Robert and Anna Koerner Fund with
the Vancouver Foundation, Suite 1200 - 555 West Hastings Street, Harbour Centre,
Vancouver, B.C. V6B 4N6. Memorial service Thursday, July 15, 1:30 pm at Hollyburn

LANG _ Gayle Passed away peacefully in Montreal on July 4th, 2004 at age 51. Beloved
wife of Howard Kiewe, dear mother of Yesod (Stephen) and Aaron, loving grandmother of
Gabriel. Beautiful daughter of Arlene and the late Ken Lang. Sadly missed by her
brothers Glen (Mary), David, Peter and Christopher (Sandra) and sister-in-law Dianne.
She loved us with an open-heart. She fought for us with passion and strength. We are
grateful to have been touched by such an uncommon spirit. Resting at Collins Clark
Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke West, Montreal on Sunday, July 11th from 2 - 5 and 7 -
9PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 12th at 11AM in the chapel of the

LAWRENCE _ Lucy (nee Gallo). Born in Powell River, B.C. passed away peacefully after a
brief illness surrounded by her family on July 7th, 2004 in Surrey, B.C. at the age of
72. Lucy is predeceased by her husband Frank in 1994 and her 2 brothers Rev. Victor
Gallo and Ugo Gallo. She is survived by her 4 children Sheila, Mark, Sharon and John and
their families. Prayers will be offered Monday, July 12th, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. and Funeral

LUCAS _ Maxine Ethal (Ryan), born March 30, 1930 in Vancouver, BC, passed away on July
9, 2004 after a lengthy battle with kidney disease. Maxine is predeceased by her
parents, Carl and Bertha Ryan. Maxine was a loving wife and mother to Alec, her husband
of 49 years, her sons, Brent (Carol) and Bradley (Lori); her three grandchildren,
Zachary, Lauren and Samantha, as well as many relatives and friends. A Memorial Service
will be held at The Broadway Pentecostal Church, 2700 East Broadway, Vancouver on July
16, 2004, 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the VGH Chemodialysis Unit would
be appreciated.

MacDOUGALL _ Nancy May passed away June 25th, 2004. A beautiful, compassionate woman and
everyone's mom, 'Pumpkin' will be deeply missed by her husband Doug, daughter Dina and
husband Al, and youngest daughter Shani. Nancy demonstrated a grace and courage that
left those who knew her honoured. Her love and memory will live in our hearts forever.
We would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior, the
Nicola Valley Health Centre, Georgie and all the home care nurses for their exceptional

MacVAY _ Margaret Joan Barden, born July 15, 1923, passed away June 29, 2004 in
Vancouver. Joan's husband Arthur Edward MacVay passed away May 16, 2003. Joan is
survived by her son Iain Clouston MacVay and her grandson Alexander James MacVay of
London, England. Joan was the daughter of Dr. Wilbur and Winnifred Lowry, both deceased,
and sister to Dr. Beatrice Noble of Acklington, Northumberland, England. Joan grew up in
Cambois and Blyth, Northumberland. She served during and after World War II in the
Canadian Forces. Joan was a nurse at St. Boniface, Winnipeg, before moving to Vancouver
where she worked at Vancouver General Hospital. Following five years back in
Northumberland and then Torquay in England, she settled in Vancouver where she was
Director of Nursing at Amherst Private Hospital for twenty-five years. Joan was a
long-term and enthusiastic member of Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club. She was a loving
and devoted mother and grandmother as well as a loyal friend to many. Joan's life will
be celebrated and she will be fondly missed. There will be a reception for her friends

MAST _ Hope. Born August 6th, 1939 in Regina, Sask. passed away peacefully in the caring
hands of her nurse Neri on July 6th, 2004 after a battle fought with dignity and great
courage. "Miss Integrity". She is predeceased by her mom Martha Mast and survived by her
loving father Ivor Mast; her daughters Kelly (Bruce) Koski and Kim (Rod) Davison and son
Rick Hubble. Hope had 5 grandchildren, Brian (Krista) Koski, Ellen Koski, Amanda
Davison, Alexander Davison and Jessica Hubble. Hope is also survived by her cousin
Deanna (Max) Cohen. Missing her also are her second family, the past and present, staff
at Forbes and Boyle. She is also greatly missed by her special friends Karen (Fred)
Goodyear, Gloria, Anita, Eileen and Foster, Lorna (Robert) Pennykid, Jeanie, Kuan (Kang)
Tan, and Maxine and Fran Horner. Hope loved her family and friends and enjoyed
gardening, cooking and sampling every food and dessert ever invented. Hope cooked
homemade waffles right up to the middle of May 2004. Poached eggs were always a
favourite. Hope will be cherished in our hearts forever. The family wishes to thank Dr.
Bar-Shlomo and Dr. Segal, nurses Neri, Lita, Diane and Robyn Hunter-Kitamura, Gabriel
and Brenda Gosen and the very caring staff at Richmond General Hospital. Service and

McCALLUM _ Douglas James "Doug", aged 81 years, passed away in Lions Gate Hospital,
North Vancouver, July 7, 2004, after a brief illness. He will be lovingly remembered by
his wife of 44 years, Terri, his brother Bob (Jean), nieces, nephews, and their
children, and many other relatives and friends. Doug was predeceased by his parents and
younger brother Kenneth. A memorial service will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807

McCONNELL _ Robert Arthur (Bob), age 64 years, passed away peacefully July 1st, 2004
surrounded by his loving family. He is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife
Carol; his daughters, Kristen and Erin (Murray) Crawford; his son Patrick (Sarah); his
grandchildren, Sophie and Charlie, as well as many other relatives and friends. In 1978
Bob moved with his family from Winnipeg to Vancouver where he continued to successfully
develop his business, McConnell Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and then later in
his career, Canyon Mechanical. Bob's passion for things that "GO" was evident in his
collection of boats and classic cars over the years. His many friends from the Burrard
Yacht Club, Classic Car Clubs and the HVAC Industry will remember "Ol Bawb" for his kind
heart, love of food, and quick (and at times inappropriate) wit! A true character, he

McQUILLAN _ David Samuel suddenly and tragically June 16, 2004, went home to be with our
Lord. Predeceased by dad Albert, mom Thelma. He will be lovingly missed by family and

MITCHELL _ Janet Ruth. Passed away on July 8, 2004, at the age of 99. She was born Janet
Ruth MacDonald in Leadville, Colorado, April 30, 1905. Predeceased by her husband,
Howard T. Mitchell, in 1988. She was a graduate of the University of British Columbia in
1925 and of the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She was one of the Founders of York House
School in 1932. Janet leaves to mourn her death her sons, Donald and Howard Mitchell,
their families, and her sister, Helen MacDonald, with whom she resided since 1998. No

MYRHAUGEN _ Kenneth Paul passed away suddenly June 27, 2004 at his home in Nanaimo. He
was a hard working man, with a passion for travel, whose generosity touched all who knew
him. Ken is survived by his children Michelle, Kari, Lia and Jeffrey, his three

PANKRATZ _ Albert Henry "Bert", born January 30, 1931, passed away peacefully July 1,
2004 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years,

ROSS _ Thomas (Tom) passed away on July 3, 2004 at Maple Ridge Hospital after suffering
a stroke March 26, 2004. Born in Burghead, Scotland on April 20, 1916, youngest son of
Alexander and Isabella. Survived by his loving wife, Eileen; son Mike and Claudia, Blind
Bay, B.C.; daughter Judy and Roy Fell, Vancouver, B.C. and granddaughter Randi and Doug
Hemre, Golden, Colorado. He served with he Canadian Army and was a longtime member of
Kilwinning Lodge. Tom drove the first truck (with a load of apples) over the new
Hope-Princeton Highway in 1949 for O.K. Valley Freightlines. He will be missed by the
bridge groups he played with twice a week, sometimes three times, if he could get away
with it. His golfing buddies will remember Tom as being a great sportsman, terrific
competitor and one hell of a golfer. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at 5338

STEWART _ Barbara Maxine Annette August 12, 1924 - July 5, 2004 Born in Ladysmith, B.C.
to Ewart Gladstone and Anna (Sisco) Ayliffe, sister to Doris Jocelyn Alder of Victoria,
B.C. and Laura Elizabeth Ayliffe of Vancouver, B.C. Loving wife of George Carvolth (d.
July 17, 1969) and loving Mother, role model and friend to George William and Gordon
Gladstone. Upon graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946 from St. Joseph's Hospital in
Victoria, Barbara worked as a Stewardess for Trans-Canada Airlines (Air Canada); and
with Canadian Pacific Airlines to Australia and inaugural flights to the Orient. She
also worked as an Eye Surgery Specialty nurse at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, and as an
occupational health nurse for various companies in Vancouver. Upon her retirement, she
was an inaugural member of the New Westminster Senior Peer Counseling Group. She
excelled at and thoroughly enjoyed her work in this area for several years. After
settling into the Comox Valley she was an active volunteer with Senior Peer Counseling,
Sen-Dial and the Comox Valley Nursing Centre. Barbara grew up, lived and worked in many
cities in Canada, including Port Alberni, Victoria, Burnaby, the Comox Valley, Moncton,
and Yellowknife; but, her heart was always at Long Beach, now Pacific Rim National Park.
Known as Pixie to her family and many close friends, she lived her life in the sure
knowledge of God's love and blessings. She lived with Celiac disease all her life, and
sought to improve her own understanding of this condition. Since she always liked
people, she endeavoured to help others who had it. In the late 1990's she contracted a
mucus based cancer, which has ended her earthly life. Her spirit, which has touched all
who have known her, lives on in the presence of God. A celebration of her life will be
held in Comox at St. Peter's Church hall (218 Church Street) on Monday, July 19
beginning at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will also be held in Victoria at St.
Mary of the Incarnation (the new church at 4125 Metchosin Road) on Thursday, July 22

WISE _ James Douglas. Passed away on July 9, 2004, at the age of 54. Survived by his
beloved wife Anne of 30 years, and children Michael (Natalie), Sandra (Jack) Reynolds,
currently residing in Gold River, and Daniel at home in Coquitlam. Jim is also survived
by his parents Freda and Clark Wise of Tsawwassen, his brother Tom (Jackie) of Calgary,
nieces Jennifer (Craig) Kolstad, Kimberly, Alison (Darren) Ainsworth, and great-niece
Emily Ainsworth. Jim was born in Shawinigan, Quebec on May 29, 1950. He grew up in
Sarma, Ont. and moved to BC with his parents in 1968. He attended and graduated from
BCIT in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Business Administration, and later became
a long time employee of Weldwood of Canada. Jim's friendship, generosity and sense of
humour will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Funeral Service will be held at Como
Lake United Church in Coquitlam on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at 10:00AM, followed by a
