Here is some info about MOSES MOSES. It might supply a link.
MOSES MOSES
Born London 1795, Brother of John , Isaac and Abraham. Glass cutter.
Convicted Old Bailey 14 July 1813. One of four men who hustle a passerby
and steal his pocket books. Moses declared that he was a glass cutter
looking for work. Transported for life. 5'4½, dark complexion, dark brown
hair, dark eyes. Arrived NSW per Marquis of Wellington in January 1815.
Assigned in NSW to the farm of Mr Hovell from which he absconded in July
1815. Upon recapture Moses was sent to Hobart Town where he was listed as
a convict bricklayer in the 1816 male muster. Moses and Samuel Lyons were
together involved in an attempt to escape to England per Kangaroo in May
1817. Moses married Sarah Brown on 18 June 1821 at Hobart Town. TL granted
April 1824 and Conditional Pardon February 1832. His VDL police dossier
shows that he was charged with receiving stolen property in August 1821 and
was released when the prosecutor did not appear. By 1822 Moses was in
business in Boart Town (Hobart Town?) and was advertising confectionery
goods. In 1824 and in 1825 he was in trouble for bread that he sold - once
for charging more than officially allowed and once for selling his bread
underweight and in 1827 was fined 20 shillings "for travelling with a cart
on the Lord's Day". A conditional Pardon was issued in February 1832.
Moses was in Yass and was appointed the keeper of its pound in September
1837.
He built the Yass Hotel in 1840, "the best Hotel out of Sydney". He was
a member of the first Yass town Council (1843) and a trustee of the Yass
Hospital, Sarah, wife of Moses Moses, late of Hobart Town now of Yass "died
of a broken heart from peculiar family trials" 1 April 1841 and buried at St
John's Cemetery, Parramatta. Moses then married Hannah Dray. He organised
the creation of the Jewish Cemetery in Yass (1844) and was a contributor
and seat holder at the Sydney Synagogue (1845). Died at Yass 11 July 1858
and buried in the Jewish cemetery. Inscription on tombstone reads "He was
one of the oldest inhabitants of the Town of Yass He was much respected
by all who knew him".
